Where is our national pride? Where is our patriotism? Where is our outrage?
A British group has produced a film depicting a fictional assasination of the sitting president of the United States, George W. Bush. Have you even heard about this? I submit that our partiotism is mired in a thick coat of political partisanship. We're so divided politically in this country, that we don't really care if someone thinks this sort of thing passes for entertainment.
The film's producer said he created the piece, debuting at the Toronto Film Festival, to "spark debate about White House policies." Well gee whiz, at least someone will finally be talking about White House policies. Who's this guy kidding? The news is inundated nightly with debate over White House policies. To me, that sounds like a quick, not-so-clever excuse.
Call it what it is. Its hate speech. Incredibly, Farenheit 9/11 caused more of an uproar. And all it did was criticize Bush and Washington using out of context quotes and misconstrued theories. This is a movie that imagines what it would be like if the president of the US were killed. This movie would have been just a movie if it had been about a fictional president. But its not.
I don't particularly like Bush. I don't particularly dislike him either. He's a politician in a country filled with them. But this steams me and should steam any red-blooded American.

I do not feel it is right that this film is being shown let alone made. In times such as this, with such hatred for Americans and mankind, there is no need to put any more crazy thoughts in to peoples minds.
I did not see any of the Michael Moore films, nor do I care to. Do I agree with what President Bush says, or his policies. No..not all of them. I admit I voted for him in his first term...but did not for his second. I do not like the fact that we're sending American's in to foriegn countries to a war where we seem to be the ones being hurt on various levels. But I AM an AMERICAN...and I support our Armed Forces. And although I do not like tha man in office, I do not think this film is proper either.
It's really the lack of publicity this story is getting that's bothering me. I believe most people, like you orlinde, would disagree with this. And would probably be pretty ticked. But this story is less publicized than Paris "the Heiress" Hilton's DUI.
It saddens me that we are more concerned with what 'celebrities' and billion-airess have for breakfast or who they're dating than what is really going on around us.
I don't want to sound like I'm all big-n-mighty, because I do watch ET and Access Hollywood if I remember to.But I am aware of the 'real world' and worry about people losing their lives fighting for justice, or people who live in pverty-stricken countries getting the medical treatment they need.
Unfortunatly war today, and terrorism is much worse than it was (even) 30 years ago what with the technology we (all) have and the beliefs some factions have. And people are not thinking rationally. All it take is one 'kook' (anywhere) to see this movie or catch wind/idea to try to take out our president.

Why do we need a movie that 'imagines' what it would be like if the president was killed? Didn't the USA expierence this first hand what with President(s) Lincoln, and Kennedy?
