Is it an accomplishment to NOT believe in something? Is anti-faith harder than Christian faith? Do you deserve recognition for thinking it's more likely that circumstance and luck created an entire universe instead of believing in an all powerful God?

Evidently, yes. The Wilson County, Tn fair has decided that their annual God and Country day which previously offered discounts to individuals who brought a bulletin from their church service, now says that discount is offered to atheists as well. So if you believe and go to services, you get a discount. If you don't believe, you get a discount. But if you believe and don't go to services, you pay full price.

As a Christian I am constantly amazed at the hypocrisy of non-believers. Yes, that's what I said. Because atheists will pitch a fit if their child is asked to sit quietly while other children around them pray. Atheists hate to spend money that reads, "In God We Trust." Atheists won't recite a Pledge of Allegiance that includes, "One Nation, Under God..." Yet atheists will stick their stickers on the back of their car proclaiming the ignorance of Christians. Little dinosaurs chewing on an ichthus. A Darwinian ichthus with feet and teeth that reads, "reality bites." Bill Maher on HBO who constantly rails against evangelical Christians and their religious crutch.

Yet Christians are said to be intolerant. Christians are said to be bigots. Christians are said to be arrogant and pushy. Some are these things, that's true. And unfortunately I believe that people like that are not parallelling the life of Christ or His teachings.

In my sincerest effort to be objective, I will still side with the pushy Christian over the pushy atheist because of one simple difference: motivation. The motivation of the pushy Christian is the (hopefully) sincere love of another's soul and concern over where they will spend the eternity in which the Christian believes. Their motivation is love. The motivation of the pushy atheist is the destroy the belief system of another. To reveal their perceived ignorance and enlighten them to a life where death is the ultimate end and hope rests in what you accomplish only in your job or procreation. Their motivation is malicious.

Why does my belief offend you atheists? If I believe in God and Christ and therefore attempt to live a life of mercy, grace, peace and love, how does that negatively affect your life?

Consider two extremes.
If all the world were believers in God and Christ and practicers of a Christian faith, how bad would the world be? Would their still be nuts? Sure. Misdirected zealots who misapply scripture or flat misunderstand it are nothing new. But most people would be trying to serve their fellow man and work with them to achieve a common goal of heaven.

If all the world were atheists how good would the world be? The motivation to serve others would have to be completely altruistic. There would be no goal to achieve other than that of a temporary life that would end in around 70 years. But the prevailing motivation would be Freud's "id" part of the personality. Self-serving, self-pleasuring, animalistic motivations that have very little regard for others except that which is chemically created by brain function controlled completely by chance.

So here's my proposal. If you wish to be an atheist, so be it. As a believer I don't want you to be a non-believer. I want you to serve God and work toward a heaven I believe exists. But I won't force your belief because I know I can't make you believe in anything. So leave me and my beliefs alone. Don't feel like some intellectual police force whose sole mission is to enlighten anyone you believe to be ignorant or unintelligent. Go your way and I'll go mine. I'll remember you in my prayers.

The United States is a great country. And I can prove it. The following is a selection of four stories about this country that I pulled off FoxNews.com. I know FNC is a right wing, rah-rah, channel and website. As a Republican, I don't even watch their stuff because it's so right-wing blinded that it borders on silly.

But I know the United States is a good place full of mostly good people. I know that as the world's last remainging superpower we recognize our moral responsibility to help those in around the world.

Either way, if we were as evil and unfair as the world makes us out to be, we would have equipped them like a bionic Rambo.

European racism. This particular example involves an ill-conceived photo of the Spanish basketball team striking "slant-eyed" poses. Nice fellas, real nice. But I'm not looking at the Spanish basketball team and assuming all of Europe is racist. That would be ridiculous. I also know that FIFA felt the need to make several PSAs regarding racism at soccer matches. That black players are often called awful things like "monkeys" and the dreaded "n-word" in European soccer venues. That speaks to the lowest of the low in European citizens, but the point is that racism is an unfortunate sickness that knows no borders. In the current US presidential elections there's a thought that if Barack Obama doesn't win the election it will be because we unenlightened Americans are racist. For many Americans, that will be their sole motivation for casting a vote against Obama and that is as sad as it is sinful and wrong. But when Europe derides the US for its racism, they might do well to remember the words of Jesus when Christ said, "Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye and then you will see clearly to remove teh speck out of your brother's eye."

The US has political problems, violence problems, and race problems. But rather than be villified by the rest of the Western world, we should be recognized as being like many other countries and often times, much better at being giving, caring, and responsible human beings. So enough with the myth of the big, bad US.

Best Plea Bargain Ever

An Oregon man has arranged the best plea bargain I've ever heard.

So what did he win?

Freedom? No.

A shorter sentance? No.

A cushy view from Plum Island, ala Hannibal Lector? No.

What he won was chicken. Fried chicken. KFC and Popeyes fried chicken with all the fixin's. But before you think the man made a mistake, understand that's just what he got BEFORE the sentencing. After sentencing he got more.

What did he get after the sentencing?

A private room? No.

Conjugal visits from Hugh Heffner's harem? No.

What he got after sentencing was an Italian feast. Pizza, calzones, lasagna. This man is a murderer after my own heart! Fried chicken one day, Italian cuisine the next. Are you kidding? For someone who knows good and well he's guilty and deserving of his sentence to save the good state of Oregon trial cost in order to get a break from jail food for a couple days....that's tearjerking.

Now somebody get this guy a mint.

Reason #423 Not to Go To Cali

LL Cool J may be going back to Cali, Cali, Cali...but I wouldn't. There is no place I know of, especially no place in the United States, that is as riddled by natural disasters than California.

Weekly on the national news California is battling wildfires because it only rains once every three years. When there is rain Californians are dealing with massive mudslides that take out houses. Regardless of whether or not there is a current drought or mudslides, there is always the impending threat of an earthquake. It is on a coast, so I suppose a hurricane would be possible, though I can't remember one every hitting the West Coast.

BUT, now this. A piece of land in Southern California was measured to heat up to 812 degrees Farenheit. To put that in persepective, the surface temperature on the planet Mercury reaches only 800 degrees. And (in case you've forgotten those science projects with the styrofoam and fishing line) is the planet closest to the sun. Yet in Southern California a piece of land was HOTTER THAN MERCURY!

Scientists don't yet know why the land is superheating. Likely something is burning deep underground and making it's way to the surface through cracks (which are abundant in Cali) causing the heat and the smoke.

My thought is that California is geologically our closest state to hell.

No, I don't really mean that.

Female US Soldiers Raped at Alarming Rate

Women serving in the U.S. military are more likely to be raped by a fellow
soldier than killed by enemy fire in Iraq.

This is a very sad quote from the LA Times article I've linked above. But one thought went through my head when I heard this story yesterday, "Duh."

I don't mean to be crude or uncaring, because I'm not in the least. Rape is deplorable. Rapists should be prosecuted and jailed as long as possible because the act shows a complete lack of humanity.

When men are in combat situations, in country, what's something they are deprived of? I'll give you a hint, it's a God-given, basic human desire. That's right, it's sex. And while someone is away from their spouse, girlfriend, or what-have-you for 12-15 months at a time, that is something that they are deprived of.

So our sex-deprived soldiers take extreme measures to satisfy this need. In Vietnam it became common for US soldiers to spend time with local prostitutes or even to father children by Vietnamese women. Some of which they married, some of which stayed behind.

From my understanding, rape was common when soldiers were invading another country that they rape the women. Much of that was simply violence, but that's what a war zone is all about. And now these men have another avenue to quench both their violence and their need for sex.

That's not justification. And it's not a backhanded argument against women in the military. It's just a theory of mine as to why this is common. God willing it will stop.

Man on Motorcycle Hits a Bear

I've always thought it would be a horrible thing to hit an animal while on a motorcycle. When thinking that I've been considering typical road kill types of animals: dogs, cats, opossum, raccoons, skunks, etc. I even entertained passing thoughts of how bad it would be to hit a deer.

In my wildest nightmares, I never considered hitting a bear with a motorcycle. For one, bears are big. And big is bad. Two, you're flying off that motorcycle and you may die. Three, the bear may die. BUT, four, you and the bear might live and if you and the bear live after you've just hit that bear with your motorcycle, that bear may be upset. This is just a no-win situation.

Extreme Makeover: Foreclosure Edition

If Ty Pennington and the crew from ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition came to your town and replaced your dilapadated joke of a house with a 4 bedroom, two story half million dollar dream home, what would you do?

If you're smart, you keep your job and go on about your life with an unexpected higher quality of living.

If you're like the family mentioned in the article linked above, you put the house up for collateral for a $450,000 loan to fund your dream construction business. Then you lose all of it. I'm not laughing at these people because it's not funny when someone loses a home. Especially a family with children and probably not enough money to buy another home to replace it.

But you sure do have to question the decision don't you?

Niiiiiice Shootin' Tex!

MORRISTON, Fla. — Authorities say a Levy County, Fla., man accidentally shot his wife while trying to hit a fox that attacked her.

The couple told deputies they spotted an animal in their yard Friday morning and went outside to see what it was.

The fox bit the woman on the left leg and wouldn't let go, so she told her husband to get a gun.

The man fired a .22-caliber rifle seven times, killing the animal but also hitting his wife in the lower right leg.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The dead fox will be tested for rabies, but authorities say the results won't be available until next week.

You've gotta love this story. A man's wife is being bitten by a fox on her left leg. So Buffalo Billy Bob gets his .22 and shoots SEVEN times (a shotgun would have done the job after one shot. But the great (depending on your perspective) thing about this story is while this fox is gnawing off his wife's left leg, Private Pyle shoots his wife's right leg.

Not only does it take the guy seven shots to kill something the size of my cat, he shoots his wife in the opposite leg. He saved his wife, but he lost his hunter's safety card.

Those Nutty New Zealander Names

A judge in New Zealand made a nine year old girl in the middle of a custody battle a ward of the court and changed her name. That seems harsh. What if little Suzy, or Elizabeth didn't want her name changed. Well, taht would be one thing.

But if your name is Telula Does The Hula, then you get it. I hear names here in the US that I think are ridiculous. Some names are just flat made up by syllables that people like together. Others are intentionally unusual spellings. But I'm glad that we've not gotten to the extreme here that they have there.

Because it's not as if Telula DTH is alone. One child is named Violence. One, Sex Fruit. These names are funny if you're naming your gerbil or a puppy even. Not if you're naming your child. I wouldn't even name my son Ephraim Alexander because our last name starts with an "R" and I didn't want his initials to be EAR. Just in case he had big ears.

So good for the judge to change this girl's unfortunate name. As for "Yeah Detroit", "Fish and Chips" or "Keenan Got Lucy", I guess they'll have to wait until they can go to the courthouse and do it themselves.

Record .491 blood alcohol level in R.I.

A man in Rhode Island had the highest ever blood alcohol level for someone in the state who wasn't dead. That line alone makes the story interesting. But this guy was driving his car....DRIVING HIS CAR with a .491 BAL.

At first glance the picture of this 41 pound, 8month old Chinese baby is comical. Until you consider the unfortunate reality associate with the picture. For those without perspective, my 2 year old, who is only slightly above average weight, weighs about 29 pounds. That's sixteen months older than this chugger.

The idiotic mother is breast feeding this kid 20 times a day. TWENTY TIMES A DAY. Now look, I know babies eat often. I remember that from when my son was breast feeding. But considering most babies sleep about 12-14 hours a day, this giant panda looking babe must be eating every waking hour.

Someone joked he was on his way to be a sumo wrestler. I dare say this kid, at this inexplicable rate, won't live long enough to be a sumo wrestler. This obviously hits my soft spot I have for children. While this is likely a very isolated incident, it speaks to the unfortunate fact that many people who have no business raising children are raising them right and left. Not only in China, but here in the US as well.

Baby Grace's Killers = Torturers = Parents

If you have a weak stomach, don't read the story linked above. It tells the tale of Baby Grace whose body was found in Galveston Bay in Texas. For weeks her identity was unknown. Now that she has been identified the mother and stepfather have been arrested, a very chilling story has unfolded.

Not only was the baby killed by her parents, she was apparently tortured. Stop reading here if you don't have the stomach for this.

They beat the girl with leather belts, held her head under water for periods of time and threw her across the room. Her head would hit a tile floor. The autopsy showed three skull fractures.

This is a challenge to one's faith. I don't blame God for people like this existing. Sin does terrible things and sin is man's creation, not God's. The challenge comes in figuring out what to do with these people. My gut says these people ought to be tortured as much or more than they did to that defenseless little girl, God rest her soul. But vengeance isn't ours to take. So that's problem #1.

Problem #1 is escapable if you believe these sinners will burn in eternal damnation. But that brings about problem #2. I need to be praying for their souls to be saved. They still should be put to death for what they did. Civil laws still have their just punishments and God's salvation doesn't give us any respite from the earthly consequences of our actions. It's very difficult to want these souls in heaven. I say that to my shame. I feel like I can relate to Jonah in times like this.

Everyone knows Jonah as the guy who lived in the belly of a great fish (whale if you prefer.) But the story of Jonah is much deeper than one of a guy who was saved by God in that belly. Jonah was a prophet who was to go teach the people of Ninevah about God and save them. Jonah didn't want to because the Ninevites were enemies. Jonah tried to flee, tried to argue with God about saving the Ninevites. But in the end they were saved, and Jonah didn't like it.

I can relate to that. Sometimes I look at people and think they don't deserve God's grace. Then I have to realize that 1) I'm acting like Jonah; 2)I don't deserve grace either, that's why it's called "grace."

This story makes that a tough, tough lesson to apply.

I've been telling people about Republican candidate Mike Huckabee for months.

He's a former baptist preacher who doesn't seem to fit the mold of typical politician. He's not like Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani or Mitt Romney. Yet he's not as off the beaten path as Ron Paul.

I like Huckabee because of his conservative stances on a wide array of issues. One of the more popular ones are his belief that the IRS has outlived its usefulness. A fair tax proposal is something I've been in favor of since taking tax accounting classes as a student at Western Kentucky University.

But my fellow contributors at the Affect want more. What's THEIR motivation for voting for Mike Huckabee? Look no further...

Huckabee is also hitting the campaign trail with a pair of zany endorsements, talking up the celebrity support he’s earned from actor Chuck Norris and wrestler Ric Flair, who plans to travel with Huckabee to South Carolina Nov. 24.

And he's using the offbeat endorsements to draw donors to the Web site. On the site is a television ad that is also airing this week in Iowa, where Norris and Huckabee trade riffs on the long line of Chuck Norris jokes that play on his tough-guy image.

“My plan to secure the border? Two
words; Chuck Norris,” Huckabee says in the ad.

Answering back, Norris says, “Mike Huckabee’s a lifelong hunter, who’ll protect our second amendment rights.”
The tongue-in-cheek ad drew criticism from GOP opponent Fred Thompson’s campaign. Spokesman Todd Harris said it demonstrated Huckabee “has confused celebrity endorsement with serious policy.”

The following is a cut and paste from FoxNews.com. Apparently a school in Texas has outlawed "freak dancing" at school events. But note the sentence that I've highlighted purple. Because a school is stopping foreplay on the dance floor, PARENTS are objecting. My goodness folks, what's wrong with you. On the same day that we read a story about 8-9 year old boys being charged with raping a girl, you've got parents who are in effect demanding MORE sexuality be allowed in schools.

Unbelievable.

Argyle, Texas, is no longer a good place for teenagers to get their freak on.
A school superintendent in the Dallas suburb recently banned the sexually suggestive "freak dancing" or "grinding" popular with teens, the Wall Street Journal reports — causing a debate among parents and school officials.
While Argyle joins a long list of other schools around the country that have banned the hip-hop inspired dancing, some parents blame the newly installed school superintendent, Jason Ceyanes, 35, for ruining their children's October homecoming dance by enforcing a strict dress code and making provocative dancing off-limits.

The only good war is The War

I have been watching a ton of new TV this week but the best thing I have seen is probably the new Ken Burns documentary The War. It is a 7 part series on World War 2 and it is not to be missed. There is not one person who doesn't know someone or knew someone who fought in this war. Burns really takes you there with amazing footage and testimony from the soldiers who fought. He also brings you testimony from those who stayed behind and waited for friends and loved ones.

Ken Burns focuses on four towns in the U.S. and we get a sense of what it must have been like for the whole country. It is not just learning a history of the war, but a history of our country. I learned about the internment of Japanese-Americans in camps and the segregation that was so prevalent in this country even though we were fighting a mad man who essentially wanted the same thing. The War is sad and eye opening and it is something that all Americans should see.

The War will be shown on PBS all day Sunday Sept. 30th, at least in my area, starting at 10 AM Central and will start rerunning on Thursday, Oct. 4, of next week. If you can, you should do yourself a favor and check it out.

This Can Only Be Bad

One unintended consequence of reelecting George W. Bush in 2004 was the emboldening of our enemies. Bush is such a polarizing figure that the enemies of the United States easily seize momentum in anti-US movements.

That certainly seems to be the case the Ahmadinjad and Chavez, pictured above. It's time to seriously question why other countries hate us. I don't think it's as much that they hate our freedoms or what we stand for, as right wingers say. I also don't think it's just because Bush is hard to swallow and a Cowboy, as left winger say.

In the case of the Muslim communities our support of Israel after WWII and especially in the last 15 or so years has gone over the line with them. Certainly we have key idealogical differences in governmental philosophies as well as religious beliefs and freedoms. But the bloodthirst of the radical Muslim community can't simply be fueled by philosophical differences and maintain the footing that it does. This is an area that really needs examination from our current presidential candidates. I'd like to hear some serious Lincoln-Douglas debates over this.

Chavez is another story. I frankly don't know what his beef is. Other than we don't like him and how he moves and he doesn't like us meddling. But as the lone world superpower we have to accept that we're a target for dictators who want to make a name for themselves. Like the bully in your classroom that earned his credentials by constatnly challenging the authority figures, Chavez gets cheers for bravado, not true bravery.

These two men joining forces can't be good for anyone. They are headstrong and insolent. Look at history and you'll see the world's most dangerous figures were often the same.

Rhythmic gymnastics is following ballroom dancing as the greatest farce of a sport of all time. Checkers is more entertaining and decidedly less pansy. But I saw this picture on Yahoo! this morning and I studied it. For the life of me, I can't find her head. I think it might, MIGHT be leaned back and just barely visible nearly touching her leg that is extended behind her.

Ok, so rhythmic gymnastics is gayer than Liberace in a Roman bath house, but that's pretty incredible right there.

I am a Cincinnati Reds fan, which means after Memorial Day the baseball season is over for me. That is why it is good to have something interesting coming out of Cincinnati, although it comes out of something sad. Ken Griffey Jr., Cincinnati Red, is one of the alltime greats and by all time greats I mean all time great injury kings. He is hurt every year and if he didn't get hurt every year he would be passing Barry Bonds in about one year, but I digress. Anyway a couple nights ago Jr., and I don't mean Dale Earnhardt Jr., pulled up lame after fielding a ball and when he tried to throw it in he pulled a groin muscle. Say it with me, g-g-groin injury.

Now on to the quote of the year. A columnist asked Griffey to describe what it felt like when he hurt his groin and Griffey told him.

Are you ready?

"The best way I can describe it is it felt like somebody bungee jumped off my right nut."

Alright! It is good to see that we can get a little comedy out of a bad situation. Good luck to Jr. in the future and here's hoping you get your sleepsack repaired.

I was sitting here at work listening to one of my favorite podcasts, The Rock N Roll Geek Show, and the host, Michael Butler, read a review of a Van Halen rehearsal that took place in L.A., I believe. The guy said even though there were only a small group of people, the whole stage show was rolled out and the VH boys treated them like they were an arena full of people. The reviewer also gave a set list and I will go through that on the next Bombay Gunrunners episode. Then I saw a youtube video of still pictures of the rehearsal. I have to say, and I back this up with 33 years of staunch heterosexuality, David Lee Roth looked good. Well, except for the short hair and that little jowly bit under his cheeks, he looked ripped.

I then hit the jackpot and before I go on I must say that the cellphone and I have had a tentative relationship at best. I hardly use it, the batteries seem to run down in an hour, the NEW AT & T has stupid billing cycles when it comes to me, but I must say, God bless you cellphone. I have found a veritable cornucopia of cellphone vids of the rehearsals and seeing them makes me believe I made a huge mistake in not forcing Big Kev to drive me to St. Louis to see Van Halen. I may have to work in some blackmail to achieve this, but something has to be done. And as a treat for you, my fellow VH fans, I will link those vids and you can see for yourself what I have been watching all morning.

Vid 1: This is the only full song that I have seen recorded so far and it is Romeo Delight off the Women and Children First album. The sound quality is crappy compared to most of these vids, but you get to see the whole song performed and it will fire your arse up.

Vid 2 & Vid 3: These two videos are of the song Unchained off the Fair Warning album. The sound is a little better on these two.

Vid 4 & Vid 5: In these two videos you get to see and hear the great Edward Van Halen perform his guitar solo or parts of it. Vid 4 is a song called Cathedral off the Diver Down album and Vid 5 is the end of the classic Eruption off Van Halen's self titled debut.

Vid 6: This next clip is of the song Beautiful Girls off the Van Halen 2 album and you get a chance to hear that classic VH harmony. Ah yeah, beautiful girls! Also, you may remember this song from the SNL commercial for Schmitz's Gay Beer.

Vid 7: This is a clip from Panama of the 1984 album. It sounds amazing.

Vid 8: This is a longer clip that is some different songs spliced together, Ice Cream Man from the self titled album, Jump from 1984, Hot for Teacher from 1984, Pretty Woman from Diver Down, and a clip from Alex Van Halen's drum solo. It is kind of a mini version of the Van Halen show.

Vid 9: The audio is crappy on this compared to some of the others, but it is a clip of Somebody Get Me a Doctor from Van Halen II. It sounds good even with crap audio.

Vid 10: More crappy audio but of a great song, Dance the Night Away off the Van Halen II album. And if my ears do not deceive me, I think you can just hear the band go into Atomic Punk from the self titled album.

Vid 11: This is a video, or slide show if you will, featuring still photos of the band during the rehearsal concerts. In these pics you can really see that DLR is not f'n around when it comes to being in shape for a long tour.

So there you go. I am done geeking out, at least for the next hour or so.

A few things, why is DLR dressed like a cowboy? The only thing missing from the group besides Michael Anthony seems to be long hair. It's a shame we couldn't also reunite Eddie and DLR's hair for this tour. As for Wolfgang, he seems to be holding his own and is at least the same size as Michael Anthony. If you listen to the Bombay Gunrunners next week we will talk about the set list and it seems that VH is ready to play around 25 songs not counting guitar and drum solos. I am even more excited to see them live and even more depressed that I have not got tickets.

Julie is back and she has the story behind her camping trip FROM HELL!!!!! Well, not really, but she gives us the scoop on her rainy trip. We also discuss the fact that there are no rattlesnakes in this area of Kentucky and what a shock, Lee was right and Dustin was wrong. The Gunrunners also have a few 9/11 remembrances as the anniversary was this past week. And Lee and Pat discuss getting mohawks sometime in the future.

In TV news, the discussion begins and ends with the MTV VMAs and the fallout. In movies, Julie and Pat saw 300 and Lee and Dustin saw 3:10 to Yuma. Lee also saw a thousand other movies. In music the Gunrunners discuss Lee's Van Halen concert plans and his new concert plans of seeing Zed Zed Top. Also the Gunrunners introduce their myspace music pick hit o' the week, Budos Band.

It was a jam packed show and the whole while Lee's football gambling money went down the drain thanks to the Cincinnati Bengals. I curse them! Well, the week in football picks was not a kind week to me. In the Times News picks I missed two games bringing me pretty much even with the rest of the peons and I missed both the Ohio County game (who knew?) and the UK game (again, who knew?). In addition to that, in the one suicide/knockout league I am in I take my favorite NFL team the Cincinnati Bengals, who just beat a very tough Baltimore Ravens team Monday night, on the road in Cleveland. Cleveland is a team that 99% of the people would say is one of the bottom three teams in the NFL. Well, at least until yesterday. The Bengals lost in a shootout and I now curse the Bengals. I curse them to no Super Bowls in my lifetime and I will live to 100 just to spite those bas****s.

In other pick 'em news, in the Bombay Gunrunners Yahoo NFL Pick 'Em I am in second so far this week with 9 correct out of 15 just trailing Julie, who for some reason has once again gotten 10 or more right for the second week in a row. I was horrbile last week and have employed a new picking strategy that seems to have worked out this week. Here's my new strategy for those who are looking for different ways to pick your games. I make my picks on Thursday pretty much going with my first instinct. Then on Friday, I go back and change every pick to the opposite of what I picked. Last week I got 7 correct, this week I am two better and have the possibility of getting ten correct with tonight's game. So there you go.

In other news, this past weekend the UK Wildcats football team, after trying everything they could to give it away, beat the number 9 ranked Louisville Cardinals. Not only did we (and I did say we) beat a top 10 ranked opponent, not only was it Louisville our most hated rival, but we also cost Lousiville any chance of a national championship. Now UK is officially a top 25 ranked team, at least until they get beat this weekend. I know I am a few days late with this, but if you haven't seen the Britney Spears VMA performance, here you go. It is so uninspired, so sloppy, and so bad it is hilarious. At one point you might even feel bad for Britney. But that soon passes.

At the end, you might think she says thank you to the crowd, but I heard that she actually said I'm sorry. Not exactly the best way to make your comeback. If she can't get straight for one performance, how will this crazy wench ever be able to tour or make public appearances?

If you have no idea what that means then this is not for you. I was never a huge fan of The Karate Kid, even though as a kid I probably saw it about 1000 times, but I am a fan of this video. It's from a band called No More Kings and the song is entitled Sweep the Leg. It is about the final fight between Johnny and Daniel-san in The Karate Kid.

The video was written and directed by Billy Zabka who was in fact, Johnny in the movie. The video shows what happened to Johnny later in life and what might have happened had he not got kicked in the face. It is very cool and has a Raising Arizona vibe to it. If you love The Karate Kid or Raising Arizona then you will love this.

People are stupid folks.

This might not be a big surprise to any of you and sadly some of you reading this may very well be one of the stupid people I'm speaking of, but nevertheless the world is chocked full o' stupidity and the OC has it's fair share. Possibly even a little too much.

However, over the past few weeks I’ve hit on a common thread of stupid people where this particular faction’s stupidity has nothing to do with intelligence, it’s more ego and arrogance.

These are the same people who, if they were legitimately famous, would drop a “Do you know who I am?” to the cop that pulled them over for doing 69 in a 45 mph zone. And, in fact, they might still do that now depending on what cop pulls them over be it local city cop or county deputy.

This past week I had a woman who essentially went to my boss and complained about something I did when she was the one that actually dropped the ball. This woman didn’t care so she complained to my boss and lied to him saying that I knew everything that was going on and decided to blow it off. Luckily, I’m in a position where my boss and I are pretty much a team where the loss of either one of us is catastrophic. And complaining about something as minute as what she was complaining about just barely concerned him enough to the point of asking me about it.

The only reason he even asked me about it was because he was curious what this nutbar was really talking about.

This is the kind of person I’m talking about. The kind of person who goes out of their way try and cause trouble for someone else because they are upset about something, no matter how insignificant, and have the ego to think “I’ll have someone’s head on a platter for this.” because they are who they are. Even though they are nobody in the real world, but the Paris Hilton of their world.

Another instance happened a few years ago when a colossal d-bag called up out of the blue just to tell the person he called that they sucked at a particular job they were doing. Not to offer any suggestions to make it better or even give a reason why he didn’t like the job they were doing, he just wanted to make it known to them that he believed that they sucked at what they did.

It takes a special kind of a-hole to do something like this for a few reasons.

1) You feel that the person you are calling will accept you opinion and criticism and perhaps thank you for it because it’s coming from you.

2) You feel that even though this person will likely tell several people that you are a d-bag and what you said, but instead of thinking ill of your d-bag ways they will chastise the person for running down your good name because you are who you are.

3) Even though you’ve expressed your d-bag opinion to many different people about many different situations, everyone still believes that you are the salt of the earth and not the biggest a-hole that ever walked on two legs.

The thing that bothers me about these people isn’t that they’ve tried to somehow personally cause me trouble for a very insignificant reason, but it’s that I can’t fathom how miserable these people must be. For something to get you so mad that you instantly fly off the handle and flip into destruction mode for petty issues has got to be a miserable life.

I’ve come to find that I have opinions that I feel passionately about, but about 75 percent of the time these people will fly off the handle start making phone calls and not do any research before complaining. Then when they get the tables flipped they’ll sometimes straight up lie about the situation or attempt to gloss over the very large detail they didn’t look into before making an ass of themselves.

The best example I can think of is the principal or whoever he was in the Breakfast Club. The scene where he takes Judd Nelson into the broom closet to set him straight. He talks about how he makes $31,000 a year, has a house, a wife and kids and he’ll be damned if he’s going to let F-ing Judd Nelson bring down his empire.

That very well might be a hell of an empire in his little world, but little did he know that Judd Nelson and rest of the Brat Pack could give two craps about him, his empire or his a-hole opinion. But he still felt as though they needed to know how he felt about them.

Those are educated stupid people and when you throw those people in with the generally stupid people, it gives me a headache.

Unfortunately, these people breed more a-holes and stupid people causing smart people to rationalize whether or not they want to subject their offspring to such stupidity.

It needs to be heard to be believed.

In TV the BGRs discuss Lobster Wars, The Pickup Artist and a little Rock of Love. The BGRs then have some movie reviews including The Last Mimsy, Hannibal Rising, House of Flying Daggers, Hero, some Thin Man movies, a great Vincent Price movie and an even better Cary Grant movie. There is also discussion about Owen Wilson and Rob Zombie's Halloween.

In music the BGRs announce their pick hit o' the week and it is a group called Justice. It will help you get your freak on...or off. We also hear some of Pat and Dustin's favorite summer songs.

Rob Zombie's Halloween is out today and I just don't know how I feel about it. I love the original. It is my favorite of the "slasher" type films. It looks great for a low budget movie by making you feel like it is Halloween in a small town. And it also helps that John Carpenter, the original creator of Halloween, grew up in this area, meaning the Bowling Green KY area, and there are certain things that he took from this area and integrated into the movie (as you can see in the trivia section of the movie Halloween on imdb.com).

I also like Rob Zombie. I love his music, I think he has a great eye and visual style. He is very creative. But can he pull this off? I am not a huge fan of remaking movies that are classics or movies that are already good and do not need any renovations.

With all that being said, it looks like Dr. Jesse and his family unit will be coming in next week and I expect us to see it and maybe have some sushi. I don't know a thing about global warming, but you've got an easy case today. Here in South Central Kentucky it got up to 106 according to weather.com. By the bank clock I saw it was 108 and I wouldn't argue it.

Luckily the humidity is down to just about nothing because there is simply no moisture to be found anywhere. Burn bans, watering bans, and cancelled events are the norm.

I work with women, which is problem number one. And my office, which gets warm on very hot days. Today it's about 80 in the office. When women get hot, they go crazy. These women go back and forth from having short tempers and getting mad about everything, then they get silly and frankly a bit raunchy.

Is she beautiful? No doubt.

Is she sexy? Careful there Pedro, because Logan Brooke is only 15 years old. Better stick with beautiful. And watch who you say that to.

In an era where internet pedophiliacs get their own show on MSNBC and we have constant problems with attractive young ladies being abducted, I would consider this unnecessarily risky.

I think pageants are idiotic in the first place. No matter what people try to tell you about them, they get their legs from hedonism 101. But if they continue, and we all know they will, shouldn't we be a bit more cognizant of this type of exposure.

Miss Teen Louisiana may not be in any immediate danger, but if you're going to parade these underaged girls as sex symbols then you're feeding a fire whether that's your intention or not. Honestly, when I scanned Yahoo! this morning and saw this picture, I was impressed. I thought she was very sexy and very attractive. When I found out her age, I got a bit sick at myself.

I'm sure many will argue with me on this, but I think this is irresponsible and naive.

Kill an animal with my bare hands, not on your life.

Travis' most recent post was about a woman strangling a rabid raccoon to death with her bare hands. If you've kept up with our Manly Men of Mankind club, most of the members have strangled a small attacking fur-bearing creature in order to be inducted into this club.

We've made fun of it a few times and in the last post Travis posed the question of whether or not I would kill a small animal with my bare hands.

My answer is no I would not and here is why.

I was lucky enough in my life that I was taught how to use a gun at a very early age. I've said this many times, I had a gun blow up in my face at age 5, so a gun finds a happy home within my grasp. This is one of the perks of growing up in the country. If you think there are a lot of guns in the inner city, you should come out here to the real OC.

That being said, having been raised in such an environment it would be no surprise to you or anyone else that, like Barry Gibb, I'm never more than 5 seconds from a gun at any point when being attacked by a rabid varmint is possible.

So, should any animal short of a African buffalo come my way, I can find the appropriate firearm in which to take it down. Big bore and small caliber rifles, shotguns, take your pick.

Therefore, the probability of me having to kill an animal with my bare hands is very slim.

However, should I ever be put into a position where I must defend mine or someone else's honor against a rabid varmint sans firearm, it still would never make it to the point where I would have to use my bare hands.

You see, in our youth, mine and Piccu's mother would deliver corporal punishment with whatever she could get her hands on. Magazines, fly swatters, yard sticks, tree branches, brooms, toilet brushes, whatever. She was the thinking man's disciplinarian. Anything was a weapon and she could wield them with the skill and precision of a samurai warrior.

Besides, when you have your hands around the neck of a raccoon or any similar-sized animal, why don't you just punt the thing like a football? It's not like it's going to come back after you after having been punted 30 feet.

Are you actively seeking out these stories, Travis?

Let's also make note that all of the people that had to kill these animals with their bare hands are the same people that would never put themselves into a position where the animal would attack them. They'd run like scared little girls and I am including myself in that group.

But in all of these cases they had to come to the rescue of other people who didn't have enough sense to run away like scared little girls. So if people would leave wild animals alone, we've never have to ask ourselves if we'd strangle a squirrel to death.

This video is on Yahoo and I guess if I were to use modern lingo I'd say it's gone viral. It's about a 9 minute clip of a water buffalo ultimately surviving an attack from a lion pride and a crocodile. It's amazing to watch, even if you're not a nature freak.

Got a New Critter

I went out to water the plants last night and met our new neighbor. Right next to the front porch between the porch and a holly bush was this fella (or gal, I didn't ask, nor did I check) Pretty cool looking really.

The bright colors made me think that this thing could be trouble. And since I do a lot of trapsing in that area trimming bushes, pulling weeds and the like, I wanted to be sure. So I did some internet research to find out.

Turns out that my new neighbor is a Black-and-Yellow Argiope (ar-guy-oh-pee) and is not dangerous. They only bit humans if severly provoked and their bite is akin to a bee sting. So it would hurt, but I wouldn't die without some sort of allergy.

But man does it look cool.

This Week's Sign the Apocolypse is Coming

Robert Plant and Allison Kraus are set to release an album. No, not each. An album together called Raising Sand.

I'm first to admit that it's intriguing and I'd love to listen to it. It'll be produced by T Bone Burnett who has his fingers in many pies, including the very popular soundtracks to the films O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Walk the Line. So he's a man with his finger on the pulse of what people like.

But come on. Even when being objective like that doesn't this just seem wrong? I mean this is Robert Plant! He's probably one of the greatest hard rock singers of all time, if not the greatest. He fronted the most influential rock band in the post-Beatles era. His lyrics and singing style laid the grounwork for probably every band you grew up idolizing. And now he's dueting with a bluegrass icon?

It might work. Shoot, it'll probably work. But don't be surprised if it's followed by a series of plagues and the moon turning to blood.

We at the MMM scour the earth to find manly men worthy of your honor and praise. Today we travel to British Columbia, Canada to meet a new member.

This one involves battling another animal, but this is not some little varmint. It's a 70 pound male cougar who had his mouth around a 12 year old boy's head. Soccer kicks and a choke hold finally got the cougar to let go.

The cougar got out of the choke hold (probably gave Mark a good thumb to the eye) and challenged him. Mark being the foolish, er, brave man that he is, growled back at the beast and told him to bring it on. No word on whether or not the cougar was also talking trash.

The cat was later shot.

So good on ya' Mark Patterson. Man on, man on.

When can a nine year old boy join the Manly Men of Mankind? When he signs with Manchester United. Because at nine years old, none of us were that set financially.

The video you'll see by clicking on the title shows young Rhain Davis in a DVD his grandfather filmed wherein he completely dominates a soccer field. You feel bad for the other boys out there. When I first read of MU signing a nine year old I thought it was stupid, but the kid has unbelievable skills.

So I hereby nominate Rhain Davis as a junior member of the MMM.

Piccu's Summertime Movietime Picks O' the Week Aug 3-10

I seem to have taken a break with my Summertime Movietime Picks, frankly because I forgot to do it last week, but I am back. And on Turner Classic Movies we are into one of my favorite things they do every year, Summer Under the Stars. Each day TCM takes a star and for 24 hours they run nothing but that star's movies. Now you will get some bad mixed in with the good, but if there is a certain star you love, then you will get 24 hours to enjoy them. So let’s snort it!

On Friday August 3rd it is Joan Crawford day and I am not a huge fan of hers, so I will skip ahead to Saturday the 4th which is William Holden day. There are plenty of great Holden movies for you to check out. If you have never seen the great Stalag 17, you have another chance at 5:45 PM EASTERN. This is a must see and if it weren’t for The Great Escape it would be the best German Prison Camp movie ever. Then at 8 PM EASTERN you can check out The Bridge On the River Kwai. This is another war movie that also stars Alec Guinness as an English commander of a captured command who is made to build a bridge for the enemy on the river Kwai. Holden is also prisoner who…well, you can see that for yourself.

On Sunday August 5th we have James Stewart day and you can watch any movie that is offered and you will enjoy it and be entertained. Stewart is one of the all time greats. If you want a couple of picks then watch The Shop Around the Corner at 8 AM EASTERN. This movie is a rom-com that is about secret pen pals who love each other, but don’t know they are co workers. It was later remade into You’ve Got Mail, but not even close to the original. Then at 8 PM EASTERN you can watch Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. This is the classic Stewart as naïve but smart character who in this movie becomes a replacement senator and finds himself battling corruption. This movie gives you hope that there are some in Washington who are actually fighting for the people and not themselves.

On Monday August 6 it is Robert Mitchum day. Mitchum is the quintessential hard arse and is no less in one of the great film noirs, Out of the Past at 11:45 AM EASTERN. Mitchum plays a private eye who is hired by old pal Kirk Douglas to find a woman with whom they are both very familiar. Twists and turns abound in this dark classic. Then at 11:30 PM EASTERN you can see El Dorado also starring John Wayne and a young James Caan. This movie interlaces great humor with good Western action.

On Tuesday August 7 it is Jane Russell day and if you know one thing about Ms. Russell, then you know two things about her. Jane Russell is just hot, hot hot, and the movie you need to see is called The Outlaw at 8 PM EASTERN. This film was directed by the crazy Howard Hughes and it caused a huge controversy and was banned for a time because of Russell's cleavage. If you have seen The Aviator you might remember a scene in which Hughes is trying to convince the ratings board that Russell’s cleavage is no greater than other starlets in other movies. Not a great film but it has Billy the Kid, Doc Holliday and Russell’s cleavage. Yum! Also at 12:30 AM EASTERN you can check out a B movie classic The Born Losers. This movie was banned in countries for violence and is a movie that makes rape victims unsympathetic. It is weird and not to be missed and Billy Jack will kick you in the face.

On August 8 we have Dana Andrews day and at 8 PM EASTERN you can watch a movie I haven’t seen myself called The Best Years of Our Lives. This movie is number 37 on both AFI 100 Films list. This movie deals with returning servicemen form WWII who come home and adjust to life after the war. Also at 4:15 AM EASTERN there is a B movie called Hot Rods to Hell that I haven’t seen but will check out because the title sounds awesome.

On August 9 it is Myrna Loy day and you have to check out The Thin Man at 9:30 AM EASTERN. This movie is so smart and charming it will make you sick when you think about movies that are made today. This movie is about a husband and wife team who investigate the disappearance of an inventor. William Powell is the husband and Myrna Loy is the wife and they are hilarious and drunk throughout. They made about 1000 Thin Man movies and they are shown throughout the day and I plan on watching two or three of them that I haven’t seen. If you are a James Stewart fan check out After the Thin Man at 11:15 AM and get a very young Stewart in a smart and funny film.

On August 10 we have Vincent Price day and if you know Vincent Price you know that his movies were generally horror movies and usually low budget horror movies. I have seen a few Price movies and one of my favorites is The Last Man on Earth. In this movie, Price is the last man on earth, or so he thinks. This movie is being remade with Will Smith in Price’s role and is being called I Am Legend. At 2:30 AM you can watch The Abominable Dr. Phibes and this movie is about a madman, Price of course, who uses the plagues of ancient Egypt to avenge his wife’s death. This is low budget but very inventive and Price is great as a madman, as per usual.

There you go, that ought to hold you. Those are some great stars to watch and some great ones to get into if you have never seen some of their movies. So until next time, keep your hand in the popcorn and your feet on the ground.

A couple of interesting stories from late local news...

I generally don't watch much of the late local news on the Evansville news stations that cover our area unless I know there is a story specifically about the OC or if I'm going to be on it. That being said, I watched a lot of the news last night for no reason I can think of, but it paid off.

One story was hilarious and one was really interesting.

First, the hilarious story. It's a story about a dog that was buried in a Uniontown, Ky. cemetery. This cemetery was very overgrown and the owner of this deceased dog seems to have brought the cemetery back to life, pardon the pun, by mowing it and helping to keep it nice. I don't think the text version of this story mentions this, but they did last night on the news.

Anyway, this woman recently raised the money to put a nice headstone on the dog's grave. It's not a big stone and only has a short phrase on it.

It has the outline of a little dog and says "In Memory of Sh*#head"

That's right, the dog's name was Sh*#head. Needless to say, people are a little upset.

The other story was about a woman who was pulled over for running a red light. This woman was pulled over a few times last year for not wearing a seatbelt and she contended that she was both times she was stopped. After being pulled over both times, she bought a cheap digital camera and mounted it on her dash with velcro.

Now every time she goes through an intersection she snaps a picture or two.

Not too long ago she was pulled over for running a red light. She contended that she did not to the officer, but he wrote her a ticket anyway. When she showed up in court she had two photos from that intersection.

The first was behind a white van that the cop said ran the light too and all the vehicles were sitting at a red light. The second was the van just entering the intersection under a green light.

So the photos saved her a $500 fine even though the prosecution pleaded to the judge for some reason and the judge told them to move on. There were 15 other people in the courtroom there for running red lights.

That being said, I wonder if the good folks at Fox 7 News are going to pick up on the fact that this woman was given a ticket for something she obviously didn't do. Making one wonder what this cop was doing giving her a ticket for something he obviously didn't witness.

Not only that, there were 15 other people in that courtroom that paid a $500 fine for something that, since they didn't have photographic evidence to prove they didn't actually run the red lights, turns into a "their word against the cops" situation.

That's kind of scary. I'm glad I don't go to Evansville that often.

For UK fans who loved Chuck Hayes because he was a scrappy hard worker who wasn't that talented, here is a special treat for you. Somehow Chuck gritted and gutted his way into being a starter in the NBA with the Houston Rockets and now Chuck has secured an endorsement from a Chinese shoe company or basketball company and here is the commercial.

Who would have ever thunk it. Chuck Hayes and Shaq in a commercial with Chuck receiving top billing. As Huell Howser would say, "This is AMAZING!" Enjoy!

Ram Jam jam

I saw this video on the Andy Polley Happy Fun Time message board and thought I would share it with you. It is the music video for Ram Jam's Black Betty. This song has some very tasty licks in it, but listening to the lyrics, I am not exactly sure about what it is about or if it might not be a little racially insensitive? Also, if you will notice, I bet the bass player gets all the women. He should be inducted into the Manly Men of Mankind club. He also comes from the Kip Winger School of Bass Players. We know this because he is able to play the bass without actually touching the instrument. I think his pelvic thrusts are what keeps the bass line going when he is not using his hands to play, but to dance and clap. We can only hope this jewel ends up on a Guitar Hero edition. Enjoy!!!!

This video you have got to see. By seeing the video tag on it, I don't think many people know who this is, but . I'll be honest, I haven't finished it yet because I was laughing so hard after one clip I was missing other clips.

The clip that did me is what when he grabbed the handle of his trolling motor, throttled it and it broke free from the boat so he was trying to not let it get away, but at the same time the throttle was on the handle he was grabbing. It's gold, Jerry. Gold.

In music the BGRs discuss GH Rocks the 80's as well as other GH news, in movies Lee and Dustin talk about The Simpsons movie and Lee watched 75 other movies this past week, and in TV the BGRs discuss Rock of Love, Damages, Mind Control with Derren Brown and Saving Grace.

The highlight of the show this week is the unveiling of Lee and Dustin's guilty pleasure songs. These are the songs they are embarrassed to say they love.

In Soviet Russia Airlines Pay YOU

Forgiving my horrible Yakov Smirnoff joke, I found this simple little story on Yahoo! as to why Russian airlines are in trouble. If Tony Kornheiser and John Madden won't fly in these United States, I don't think they'd dare enter the formerly soviet skies.

Licenses are given with only 1/3 the amount of flying time as here. Instructors get paid about $2 a day. They use very old and outdated aircraft. It goes on and on. Freaky stuff.

Call It What You Will, BET is Doing Something Right

Initially the show was to be called, Hot Ghetto Mess, after the website that inspired it. Instead it debuted last night on BET under the name, We Got To Do Better.

Let me say, this was the first show I've EVER watched on BET. And I loved it. The show is self-described "pure social commentary" about problems that exist in the black community. The show's producers say what they're doing is no different than what Bill Cosby does, highlighting shortfalls of the black community with the hopes of inciting change.

So what happens? People complain. One blog has been complaining about this show for two months without ever having seen an episode. Why are some people in the black community so afraid of changing for the better?

I applaud Bill Cosby and those at Hot Ghetto Mess/We Got To Do Better for saying things that need to be said with voices that need to be saying it. You're talking about successful individuals who want to improve their community. There's nothing at all bad about that.

Watching the show last night they would go on the street and ask simple questions of people on the street. Mostly they asked blacks, but they also asked whites and others. Things as easy as, how many blacks are on the Supreme Court. One girl said 10. No wonder they call the show, "We Got To Do Better." No one knew when slavery ended. Sad.

It's a show that could be done with any ethnic group. But having something like this on BET is a positive step. Let's just see how long it lasts and how much its lauded or loathed.

I've stumbled across some crazy videos in my day. Some stupid, some dangerous, some dangerously stupid and some funny.

However this video could be classified in all of those categories and thrown into the odd category as well.

Below is a video of what appears to be inmates in an Asian prison reenacting Michael Jackson's Thriller video. Complete with one inmate in drag.

They are pretty dead on with the dancing. Note about half way in the main dancer up front is dead tired and soldiers through.

The Longbow Apache helicopter

For those of you who listen to the Bombay Gunrunners, you'll hear me talk about the aviation camp that I covered here in the OC. The highlight of the camp was the Longbow Apache attack helicopter that the Army was gracious enough to send in for the kids to see and get into and learn about.

Here are a few photos from the experience.

The pilots that brought the chopper in were a part of the 101st Aviation crew known as the Killerspades which is totally cool. Notice the aces and 8's dead man's hand.

Here is the chopper taking off. It had some dummy Hellfire missiles and dummy rocket arrays loaded on. One type of rocket they use contains 1,100 three inch needles and it is designed to explode in front of the target so it releases the needles onto the target. Insane.

Here they are hovering in front of the kids. Notice the 30mm cannon below the front pilot is tracking with the front pilot's head. Wherever the front pilot looks, the cannon instantly follows his sight. So when he wants to shoot something he simply has to look at it and pull the trigger.

They took the Apache out and came at the crowd and banked hard away from us. This helicopter is scary when it goes over you, but the crazy thing is that when they get about a mile away you can't hear them at all. It's not really all that loud even though it had two 17,000 horsepower turbine engines.

Here the chopper is coming back at us for a second pass. They obviously couldn't show us how maneuverable the Apache is, but each blade on the main rotor and tail rotor can twist and change angles which most choppers can't do. With that and the power it has it is actually able to do an upside down loop.

They headed off to Fort Campball after this pass at a high rate of speed.

It was a really cool day and the pilots went over just about everything they could about this $35 million helicopter. It even gets email so they don't have to use their radios.

Manly Men of Mankind... First member from the OC

Manly Men of Mankind, meet the newest member. Uncle Herbie.

Uncle Herbie didn't wrestle a rabid rodent as some of our members, but his story is real and unbelievable. But most importantly it happened here in the OC and Herbie is related to a couple of the Bombay Gunrunners.

Anyway, Herbie was doing a little bushhogging, which is the manliest of all the mowing a man can perform, and of course he was on a tractor when he was doing this. He was mowing on a bank when the tractor began to slide sideways down the bank.

Fearing that the tractor was going to turn over as many of us that have ridden a tractor have had happen, Herbie jumped off the tractor onto an asphalt driveway.

As he landed onto the asphalt driveway, the top of Herbie's tibia at the knee pretty much exploded and the bone split in half.

He quickly collected himself and noticed that the tractor he feared was going to turn over actually didn't and since it was still in gear was still going without a driver. From there he actually got to his feet, caught the tractor and actually jumped back onto the tractor and regained control.

After taking the tractor back to the house he passed out from the pain of his severely damaged leg.

Doctors had to take his leg and screw the tibia halves back together, put a cap on top of it and use bone cement to replace the fragments in what was most likely a lengthy surgical procedure.

He is still in the hospital but is expected to get out in a day or two.

Either way, he's Batman in my book.

The latest episode of the Bombay Gunrunners is in the air and for those of you who are pansies, it is not as supersized as the last few have been. I know some of you have soooo much going on in your lives.

In this episode the Gunrunners discuss Lee and Dustin's mob uped insurance agent, drug bust in the OC, Dustin flies an Apache Long Bow helicopter, cockfighting in London (KY that is), and a fireworks injury (not any of us, sorry).

We also discuss VH1's Rock of Love and Big Brother 8. Then in movies we discuss Munich, Support Your Local Gun Fighter, Rashomon, God Forgives, But I Don't and Julie asks Lee about a pile of DVDs she stole from a friend.

In music the BGRs give you a pick hit of the week and take you back to 1982 with some classic rock while they blast through crazy news of the week.

Piccu's Summertime Movietime Picks O' the Week for July 21-28

It’s that time again; time to get your fill of classic movies to while away your summer. Unlike Julie and Pat I know that you readers have a little something I like to call class and like to hear about the classics that will ultimately make you a better human being. As always these movies will be shown on TCM at the times listed below. Now on to the movies.

First off we have Angels with Dirty Faces on July 21 at 8 AM EASTERN. This is a good old fashioned gangster movie starring James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart. You can’t get better than that. This movie pits childhood friends, one a hoodlum and one a priest, on opposite sides of the law, who are fighting for the loyalties, and in the case of the priest, the souls of a young street gang. This is not the best Cagney gangster film but if you have never seen him in action, this certainly will not disappoint.

Next on July 21 at 4 PM EASTERN we have Thunder Road. Robert Mitchum is the star of this movie about a Kentucky moonshiner who battles a Chicago gangster. This movie is full of fast cars and white lightening. This is a pretty good movie, but it will be better for those of us who are actually from Kentucky. Watch because Robert Mitchum is a badass, that’s reason enough.

On July 22 at 6 PM EASTERN we have the great From Here to Eternity starring Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift and Frank Sinatra. It also has two great female actors in Deborah Kerr and Donna Reed. This movie is about enlisted men in Hawaii who fight for love and honor on the eve of WWII or that how TCM explains it. This movie has the goods. Montgomery Clift is one of the all-time great brooders. Nothing seems to satisfy him. Burt Lancaster is a man’s man and doesn’t mind stealing someone’s wife if he has to. And Sinatra gives his best performance in this film. Love and war make two great subjects for a movie. This movie was number 52 on the original AFI 100 Films and somehow it dropped off the list for the 10th anniversary. It almost invalidates the new list, this is a great movie.

Also on July 22 at 8 PM EASTERN you can get your baseball fix with The Pride of the Yankees starring Gary Cooper, Teresa Wright and one of my all time favorite character actors Walter Brennan. This movie is about the life of New York Yankee legend Lou Gehrig and the ending of his baseball career by a crippling disease. This was the movie that made me a Gary Cooper fan. Cooper plays the part perfectly and as you watch it you forget it is a movie and start to see it as a documentary. Also look for a cameo from another Yankee legend, the Babe.

We now jump ahead to July 26 at 1 AM EASTERN to a musical by the name of Tommy. Yes, it’s that Tommy. The Who’s rock opera was made into a movie and it is a weird one. It stars Ann-Margret at her hottest (unfortunately her singing leaves a little to be desired because of too too much vibrato). It also stars the Who’s Roger Daltrey as the title character Tommy. As I said it is a weird movie but it is a movie loaded with great songs. A must see for Who fans and maybe a nice curiosity for everyone else.

Finally we have July 28 at 2 AM EASTERN as a part of the TCM Underground, A Bucket of Blood. This movie stars Dick Miller as wannabe hippie who has a very interesting way of sculpting. This movie must have been made at the height of all that pretentious hipster crap. You know, all the existential and “Daddy-o” junk. It is weird and disturbing and was crafted by the king of the B-Movies, Roger Corman. For fans of cult movies or just plain weird movies, this will be an enjoyable experience,

First Lifetime Ban from the MMM

The Manly Men of Mankind, in conjuction with Huevos International and the Hairy Knuckles Foundation, would like to hereby announce that Michael Vick has been banned for life from any MMM functions or rosters.

Seriously, if all this is true, and there's an awful lot of smoke if there's no fire, then I hope he gets a maximum jail sentance. And I'm shocked they couldn't come up with some animal cruelty charges to tack on to Vick's conspiracy and sponsoring indictments.

Read the link by clicking on the title of this post if you're not up-to-date on the Michael Vick dog fighting case. The cruelty they're talking about here is almost unspeakable. Drowning, electrocuting, shooting, or other executions of the dogs AFTER you forced them to fight each other.

Wounded dogs, undernourished, killed, beaten, etc, etc, etc.

The Vicks are proof that sometimes being a lowlife is a genetic trait.

Why was Ben's head aching? Because a doctor later found he had his opponent's tooth embedded in his head. A tooth embedded in his HEAD! And he kept playing! For three months!

Two brothers decided to go to Pamplona to run with the bulls to celebrate one of the brother's successful battle with testicular cancer or something like that. It's summer, you are in Spain, Pamplona to be exact, and you are looking for something to do. What jackass in his right mind decides to run with the f'n bulls? I see no reason for anyone to do this and I always root for the bulls in this tradition. You may say that is harsh or cruel, but after the running of the bulls is over, all the bulls who make it to the bull ring are then killed. So as far as I see it, if the bulls are going to die no matter what, then they might as well get some of the killers.

That was all a big set up to a victory for the bulls. Chris, our Senior Junior Lil' Gunrunner Pacific North West Coresspndent sent us this pic. It is not bloody, but if you look closely you will be disturbed at first, but when you realize that bull was then later killed, you will feel justified.

Piccu's Summertime Movietime Picks O' the Week for July 16-21

Well, better late than never I always say. I guess I forgot to leave you with your weekly Summertime Movietime picks last Friday so I will make it up to you by posting them Monday, today. All these will be found on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) or Netflix or wherever else great movies are found.

On July 19 at 12 AM EASTERN you can watch one of my favorite war movies in All Quiet on the Western Front. It tells the story of some young German soldiers in WWI. It is very interesting to see how the other side was affected by this huge war. It shows us that even though we are in war and fighting an enemy we hate, the soldiers of the enemy are just as human as our soldiers. It is a great film and really makes an impact. This film was number 54 on the original AFI 100 Films list.

Also on July 19 at 9:15 AM EASTERN you can see a crazy what if type movie in Fail Safe. It stars Henry Fonda as the president of the U. S. who has to make hard choices after a failure in the U.S. security systems threaten to start WWIII. This movie also stars Walter Matthau and Larry Hagman. I watched the movie a few years ago and it was a tense and suspense filled couple of hours. This movie could be called the serious version of Dr. Strangelove. This movie shows just how frighteningly one computer malfunction could end the world.

Also on July 19 at 6 PM EASTERN TCM presents a movie I just recently watched, The Thing from Another World. This movie is about UFOs and aliens in the Arctic. Some of you may have seen UFO and alien movies from the 1950s and for the most part they are crappy. This movie on the other hand is not one of them. I thought this move was the best 1950s alien movie I have seen. It is creepy and suspenseful without being hokey and over the top.

This movie stars James Arness, who went on to later fame as Marshall Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke, as the monster. This movie was produced by the legendary Howard Hawks and some historians believe that, even though the credits say this movie is directed by Christian Nyby, that Hawks himself had the most input on the direction of this film. That may explain why it is so good. A must see for sci-fi fans and Hawks fans. Also this movie was remade by John Carpenter and renamed The Thing and from what I hear it is as good or better than the original.

Lastly we have a movie that is part of TCM Underground which means it is going to be weird and or freaky. On July 21 at 2 AM EASTERN you need to watch a movie called I Bury the Living. This is a cult movie starring no one you know, but the story is excellent and after it is over you will wonder why someone hasn’t remade this film with a big Hollywood budget. Here’s the setup, a cemetery keeper thinks he can mark people for death. Pretty simple. It is low budget but is very intriguing and has a twist ending that may take you a few rewinds to totally grasp. Who could ask for more?

Well, there you go, a mini version for this week. If I can remember I will give you some more for next week on Thursday or Friday. Until then, keep your hands in the popcorn and your feet stuck to the floor.

In this video you will see a couple of guys who strapped together about 1,000 Roman candles and lights them all. For someone who looks at the 4th of July as second Christmas this warmed my heart and to be honest lit a fire in my loins.

Here's a video I had heard about a while back but never checked out, until today. I was listening to the Adam Carolla Show from yesterday and on the show they had a guy who broke the Cannonball Run cross country speed record by traveling from New York to LA in 39 hours (yes apparently the Cannonball Run is still in existence). During this segment they discussed this video and I searched it out and found it.

In this video you will see a Ferrari speeding through the streets of Paris. I mean SPEEDING through the streets. The car only slows down slightly for turns and early morning garbage trucks. The only sound you will hear is the revving engine and the squealing of tires. Oh, and maybe your heart. If you are a car guy or would like to see what it would be like to dirve with reckless abandon through the City of Love from a car's eye view than you should check it out.

I'm not a fan of the pope. I realize that men in cloaks with collars may wake me in my sleep and kidnap tonight for saying that, but I'm not. I don't believe God instituted a man on earth to be revered and respected as the mouthpiece for God. I believe the Holy Spirit was left for us, through the Word of God, the Bible. And that's all we need.

Now people may say, "what's wrong with the pope? His Popeness?" Well when he comes out and makes a statement than non-Catholics aren't true "churches" I have a problem with that.

He states well that Christ founded only one church. Very true. (Matthew 16) And I have no problem with people who think that their faith is the only truly correct one. Obviously you believe your church/congregation is doing things right, or you wouldn't be there. But this is an awfully divisive thing for the spiritual leader of a religion to say.

While we ought to be unifying, and the pope says he's willing to work toward that, he says if you don't believe in him, then all bets are off.

I suppose it's all pretty much common sense, but I just can't believe he said it out loud. And documented it. Then released it.

There is nothing in the bible that indicates you need an interpreter, that you need a pope, or anything like that to worship God and be saved from your sins. Nothing. Sorry Mr. Pope.

Guitar Hero III news from E3...

Interesting stuff coming out of E3 this week about Guitar Hero III. E3 is the big electronics and gaming convention for venders and companies in this business.

Anyway, this story is about the new battle mode in GH3. They also touch on how the co-op mode from GH2 will be extended so two players can go through career mode instead of just quick play the songs.

I also saw a little nugget about the controllers. More specifically the Wii controller which I don't really care about. But they talk about all the guitars that will be available for GH3 as well right here. Judging from the fact that the Wii-specifica guitar has a Wii-mote in it, it appears that they are making a Les Paul guitar controller and a controller modeled after a famous Kramer guitar. I don't know what the original model was called, but Kramer is making a new version of this guitar called the 1984 after Eddie Van Halen's famous red and white striped Kramer. But this one is black.

Most people will call it a Fender Stratocaster because of the body style, but the headstock is all Kramer and that is the difference.

The best movie trailer ever...in the world...I'm serious.

If you haven't seen the new Transformers movie, and if you listen to the podcast you can get all the Gunrunners reactions to it, then you missed possibly the greatest movie trailer of all time. It will freak you out. It reminded me of the craziness of The Blair Witch Project except in color and with something very, very big causing earthquakes and explosions and fire and brimstone.

Click right here and you will get whisked away to a story from MTV on the mysterious trailer for a movie by Alias and Lost creator J. J. Abrams. In the story you get plenty of speculation and no answers, which makes this even more mysterious. Some of the theories are that it's a Godzilla reboot, a Voltron movie, or a completely original story. Whatever the case, there is no title for this movie (even though you see the words Bad Robot before it starts, Bad Robot being J. J. Abrams' production company) and the trailer never really let's us see anything, but it rules none the rest.

So despite how Julie and I felt about Transformers the movie, you need to go see it specifically for this mystery trailer. Do it, NOW!!!

Then in movies, we discuss Transformers, Fantastic Four: Rise O' the Silver Turd, Ghost Suckster, 711 Ocean Drive, Meet Me in St. Louis, Marathon Man, and Support Your Local Sheriff!

Then Dustin and Lee discuss their trip to Olive Garden and Stone Cold Creamery and Julie tries to guess our cost.

Then we finish strong with Rock Band, a dude changes his name to Megatron, an 11 year old gets a DUI, a woman sells her special flower, a public service announcment about smoking while jumping on an oil tank, and a condom snatch and grab.

Piccu's Summertime Movietime Picks O' the Week for July7-July 14

It’s that time again, your guide to great summer movies that you can find on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) or your local Netflix. So let’s do it.

On July 9 at 3:30 AM EASTERN you can see a Charlie Chaplin classic called Modern Times. This is for the most part a silent film and Chaplin plays his Little Tramp character to perfection. The Little Tramp meets a girl and tries to start a life with her and they run into many bumps on the road. This is my favorite silent film and there is plenty of fun stuff in it. It is number 78 on the AFI 10th anniversary 100 films. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Also on July 9 at 9:30 PM EASTERN we have the movie that started the blockbuster craze, Jaws. I can’t imagine anyone who hasn’t seen this movie, but if you haven’t SEE IT NOW! This movie works so well on many levels, horror, suspense, drama, it has it all. Even if you have seen it, it doesn’t hurt to watch it again. My favorite part is Quint’s tale of the U.S.S. Indianapolis. It gives you chills. By the by, this movie is number 56 on the AFI 10th anniversary 100 films.

On July 11 at 9 PM EASTERN you can see one of the all time greats, The Philadelphia Story. This movie stars three of the greatest actors to ever grace the silver screen, Cary Grant, James Stewart and Katherine Hepburn. It doesn’t get much better than that. This movie concerns Hepburn’s character getting married and Stewart is a tabloid reporter who tries to crash the wedding with his partner. Grant is Hepburn’s ex-husband who just tries to sabotage everything. This is a great example of what a romantic comedy should be. This is a must see and be sure to pay special attention to the scene in which Stewart is drunk and is writing a letter with Grant’s character. In this scene Stewart hiccups and you can clearly see Grant begin to lose it. I couldn’t believe that it was left in the final cut, but it is so cool to see how much fun the actors seem to be having with each other. It is number 44 on the AFI 10th Anniversary 100 films and you have to see this movie.

On July 12 at 12 AM EASTERN we have the sexploitation classic, Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! This movie is full of bad acting and big boobs. In this cult classic three go-go dancers search for a family’s treasure, while some in the family have their own bad intentions. As I said the acting is bad and way over the top, but it is so funny and campy and it looks very cool. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you like to take chances or like to enjoy the art of bad films then you should definitely watch Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! It is also a great introduction to Russ Meyer who is THE greatest sexploitation director.

Also on July 12 at 12 AM EASTERN you can watch a movie called Dark Passage. This is not an all time great but it features the greatest onscreen pair in Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. In this movie Bogie plays a man who is framed for his wife’s murder and he goes on the run to try and find the truth. One of the interesting things about this movie is that it starts out completely from Bogie’s first person perspective. It’s as if Bogie’s eyes are the camera and we see everything through his eyes. It is a nourish film and any fan of Bogart who hasn’t seen it should see it.

Okay, the next two movies will require a refined palate to enjoy. On July 14 at 2 AM EASTERN on the great TCM Underground series you can watch Billy the Kid Vs. Dracula. I know, this sounds stupid and it is. In this movie Billy the Kid is a good guy and he fights a vampire to save his fiancé. This is as bad a movie as you will see, but it is also hilarious. There is only one name in this movie that you might recognize and that is John Carradine. Besides being a great character actor of his time (before this movie anyway) he is the father of David, Robert, and Keith Carradine. If you like crap movies, or grindhouse style movies this is a classic.

Directly after that movie on July 14 at 3:30 AM EASTERN you can watch Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter. When this movie first came out it was paired with Billy the Kid Vs. Dracula as a double feature for drive-ins and grindhouse theaters. If you are going to watch the first, you might as well watch this one. In this movie Jesse James plays a good guy who is on the run from the law and runs into Frankenstein’s daughter who turns his partner into a monster. I am not exactly sure which of the last two is the crappier, but this one may get it because it has no actors anyone has ever heard of and for good reason.

Well, there you go, I have given you three classics, one great Bogie-Bacall movie and three cult classics, what more do you people want from me? So, until next week, keep your hands in the popcorn and your feet stuck to the floor.

Guitar Hero Freaks line up for a cool Rock Band preview.

Here’s something for all you anxiously waiting the release of the video game Rock Band. It is a video of a little ditty called Welcome to the Jungle and it shows you how things may be set up for the game. The Rock Band game allows you to play the guitar, the bass, the drums and sing. Makers of the game have already said that this video is old and that Jungle may not even be in the game, but to see how it is set up and how the drums look is cool.

One thing I am worried about is the fact that the karaoke part of the game seems to be you singing into the mic and the original lead singer’s voice coming out of the TV. If I am going to sing and make an ass out of myself I want it to be my own voice I hear over the music.

But what I am so freaking excited about is that if you watch the video you will see that at the end of the song it appears that you have the ability to freestyle and play any kind of end wankery you want. If that is the case I am sure no price will be too much for me to shell out for this.

Here is a great time killer for you to check out. It is called Get the Glass. It is a board game that is brought to you by the got milk? campaign. Now before you immediately stop reading and call me an idiot, check it out.

I thought the same thing and then I played it. It was fun. The story behind it is a family is trying to steal a glass of milk and the cops are on their trail. You role dice and move over a board that has different options for you that involve separate little challenges. It is something that is worth checking out and will help you kill about 10 minutes easily.

I have been slacking on my pimpin’ lately so I am thinking about posting some stuff over the next couple days, so gird your loins.

This is an interesting video mash-up that combines the crazy song Mr. Roboto by Styx with clips from the great NBC comedy The Office. I think it is enjoyable whether you have seen the show or not, but the video really speaks to the fans of the show, especially when the lyrics “Secret, secret/I’ve got a secret” and in the video you see Pam and Jim.

Wimbledon is Stupid

I don't really think Wimbeldon is stupid. But having an outdoor tournament in England is. Everything gets rained out. Of Monday's 22 scheduled matches, nine are currently suspended or postponed. And that happens everyday at Wimbeldon.

The decline of tennis has many reasons. Especially in the United States where there are no current superstars. Andy Roddick is a US star by default. He's an upper level player, but hasn't had nearly the success or fanfare of his predecessors like Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Jimmy Connors or John "YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!!" McEnroe (who is still the greatest crybaby of all time...I mean that in as endearing a tone as is possible.)

But even when you think, "Hey, I'll catch a little Wimbeldon action today" you won't. It's in a rain delay. Trust me. It doesn't matter when you're trying to watch or whom. I can promise you it's in a rain delay.

This wouldn't be as big a deal if it weren't the biggest tournament the sport has. Could you imagine if the Superbowl, World Series, Kentucky Derby, Masters, or other championships had such a stacatto action? They'd bomb. And largely, Wimbeldon bombs as well.

Time for the Summertime Movietime picks and a short edition this week after the jumbo edition last week. Remember all these movies will be found on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). Let’s snort it!!

On July 3 at 2:30 AM EASTERN you need to check out Mad Max. I know some of you have seen this and I am late to the brunch, but I just recently saw this and was amazed that an Australian action movie from 1979 can still be so good. Mel Gibson is a cop who is seeking revenge for a murder. This movie is nothing but speed, fast cars and fast bikes. This is a definite action classic.

On July 4 at 9:30 AM EASTERN you can start your holiday with The Sunshine Boys. This movie stars Walter Matthau and George Burns as a comedy team who is reuniting, after years of feuding, for a TV comeback. I was surprised this was so good seeing as the leads are two old geezers but Matthau and Burns are so funny together. If you like Abbott and Costello or the Three Stooges type vaudeville humor, this movie is for you. It also has a sweetness to it as well.

Also on July 4 at 5:30 PM EASTERN you can see a classic in Yankee Doodle Dandy. This movie stars James Cagney as George M. Cohan who was a famous song and dance man that entertained America through two world wars. This movie is a musical and is loaded with all kinds of tap dancing. I am not a huge fan of musicals, but I did like this one and I recommend it especially for those of you who love musicals. It is also number 98 on the 10th anniversary AFI list of 100 movies.

On July 6 you can watch a film noir classic as D.O.A. will be shown on TCM at 10 PM EASTERN. This movie stars Edmond O’Brien as an insurance man who leaves town to unwind and ends up being poisoned. The poison is slow acting and he spends the movie finding out why he was poisoned and who did it. The concept is so cool and it has the coolest opening lines in cinema.

On July 7 at 2 AM EASTERN you can watch a cult classic called Curse of the Demon on TCM Underground. This movie is about and anthropologist, Dana Andrews, who investigates a devil worshipper who may command a deadly demon. This movie has a great story and decent acting and I thought it was really good. It was very mysterious and has a great ending. Check it out.

It’s time once again for the Summertime Movietime picks and I have way too many this week, but there were some good movies on the Turner Classic Movies schedule. By the by, that is the channel on which you will find all these movies. If you do not have TCM then rent or Netflix these movies.

First we start out on Friday June 22 at 2:15 PM EASTERN with Stalag 17. This is a WWII movie about American soldiers being held in a German prison camp. It stars William Holden as a man who is trying to prove he isn’t an informer. This is a great war movie without much war. It is directed by the great Billy Wilder. Holden does a great job of seeming to not care about anything while caring about everything and wanting to be hated by the audience but ends up being loved by the audience. Because of his teriffic performance, Holden won an Oscar.

At 4:30 PM EASTERN on June 22 we see William Holden again in Sunset Boulevard. This movie has been said by many to be the greatest example of film noir. Holden is a failed screenwriter who ends up at the beck and call of an old Hollywood legend. The creep factor is very high in this movie, especially the ending. It is also 16 on the updated AFI 100 movies list.

On June 23 at 8 AM EASTERN The Killers will be on TCM. The Killers is a great film noir movie that is told through flashbacks from those involved in the life of a murdered boxer. This movie stars Burt Lancaster in his first big movie role and is one of the few Lancaster movies I really enjoyed. Ava Gardner also stars as just plain bad news. If you like noir films, this is a must see.

Also on June 23 at 2 PM EASTERN we have number 19 on the updated AFI list, On the Waterfront. This movie stars the actor’s actor Marlon Brando as a washed up boxer mixed up with the mob and his dilemma of keeping quiet or telling the truth. I can’t even explain how great this movie is. Brando is so good you forget he is acting. This is my personal favorite Brando film and if you only see him once, see him in this.

Later on at 8 PM EASTERN The Lost Weekend will be shown as a part of TCM’s Essentials. This movie starts Ray Milland who is struggling to fight his alcohol addiction. This movie is so sad, dark and real that it is hard to believe it was made in 1945.

After The Lost Weekend you will need a pick me up and on June 24 at 8 PM EASTERN you can check out Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. Besides the Stooges, Abbott and Costello are my favorite comic team. Knowing the plot of this film is not necessary. The coolest thing about this movie is that Bela Lugosi appears as Dracula and Lon Chaney Jr. appears as the Wolfman. And for those fans of Vincent Price, Price makes an uncredited appearance as the voice of the Invisible Man. Hijinks ensue.

On June 25 at 1:30 PM EASTERN you can see Humphrey Bogart in In a Lonely Place. Bogie plays a writer who is suspected of murder by his girlfriend. This is also a dark film more in a noir vein. Any movie with Bogie in it is going to be awesome so check it out.

On June 26 at 11 PM EASTERN we have a movie called The Hitch-Hiker. This movie seems to have been made and remade a thousand times. In this noir classic two men on a fishing trip pick up a psychotic killer who intends to use them and then kill them. This was based on a true story. The killer, Myers, has a creepy dead eye and is just bat crap crazy. This is not a classic in a normal sense, but a great noir film.

Here comes Bogie again on June 27 at 5:30 PM EASTERN in The Desperate Hours. In this movie Bogie and his escaped convict pals hold a family hostage as they wait for transportation out of town. This is a tense suspenseful movie and as always Bogart is great.

On June 28 at 8 PM EASTERN you can see Cary Grant in Gunga Din. This is a movie about three British soldiers who are searching for treasure who become caught in an Indian uprising. This is an action movie all the way and is definitely worth checking out.

On June 29 at 8 PM EASTERN Witness for the Prosecution will be shown on TCM. This is a great movie. It is smart, funny, and has great trial scenes. It stars Charles Laughton as a British lawyer who gets caught up in a couple’s marital affairs as he defends the husband charged with murder. This movie also stars Tyrone Power, a big star in his time, and the still big Marlene Dietrich. I must say I am not a huge Dietrich fan but she is wonderful in this role. It was also directed by Billy Wilder and that is how you can know it will be good. Ask Dr. Jesse how good this film is.

On June 30 at 2 AM EASTERN you can watch a great Lon Chaney silent film called West of Zanzibar. In this film Chaney is a man who plots revenge on the man who stole his wife. It takes place in Africa and is hardcore for a movie from 1928, very dark. Tod Browning was the director so it should be no surprise that the man who brought us the movie Freaks would make a dark film.

Well, there’s enough there to keep your DVR filled for a while. If you only watch one or two of these, I suggest Witness for the Prosecution because it is soooooo good. And I would also recommend highly On the Waterfront. It’s a mob movie starring Marlon Brando, those are always good. And one more to watch would be The Lost Weekend, it really gets into alcoholism and roots around for a while. That’s it, I’m finished. Is a change coming in music?

I stumbled across this on MTV.com and it is an essay about how this hot new crop of rock called emo may be the new hair metal. As in there are so many bands who sound exactly the same and who suck as bad as the next. It also poses the question, is something going to come along and destroy the genre just like Nirvana did when they came along in the early to mid 90's and killed hair metal?

I am a music geek as some of you know and I find this piece very interesting, though I don't believe it is necessarily true. For emo to be the next hair metal, the music industry needs a band or genre to emerge and kill it. I am not sure that is going to happen. I thought this exact same thing would happen to hip hop because anybody can put out a record and have a hit and then disappear. It wasn't too long ago that a hip hop album debuted at number one and had a good run but you never heard anything else form that artist after that. In the late 80's/early 90's the same could be said for hair metal. Unfortunately for hip hop, nothing came along to destroy it and we still have the same old crap coming out of our speakers. I can only listen to how great you think you are for so long. Let me guess, MC Bland, you like b*^%#s and h@# and you're a pimp. No kidding? Next thing you going to tell me is you're a hustler who still has love for the streets.

The only thing that would lead me to believe that this scene will go away on its own is the fact that most fans of this genre are teenage kids (although I must admit I do love My Chemical Romance and AFI). Unfortunately for bands with young fans, their fans grow up and usually move on. Ask any of the former boy band members, who aren't Justin Timberlake, how things have been going for the last 3 or 4 years. Emo groups could be the boy bands of this time and when their fans grow up, go to college and discover great music it could be over. I hope this is true because I don't have faith in a great new band or genre coming down the pike to save rock.

Whatever happens, if you are a music fan I think you will enjoy "Is Emo-Punk Just Hair Metal's Second Coming?" And there is plenty of good music out there if you look for it and aren't afraid to broaden your horizons.

In the world of Guitar Hero there is no song news this week, unless videos of songs from Guitar Hero 3 count. This link takes you to IGN.com and it has vids of songs and an interview with the creators of Guitar Hero 3. Some exciting news from the interview is that one of those interviewed said that it is getting really easy to acquire the songs they want. I hope this means Led Zep, Metallica, AC/DC, and Tool. Those bands would be awesome.

In other Guitar Hero 3 news we have our first look at the wireless controller for the XBox. The controller is a Gibson Les Paul and here is a pic. Here is a story on the new controller from IGN.com. An interesting note that comes out of this story is that the neck of the new controller can be removed and the creators neither confirmed nor denied the possibility that a double neck add on would be a part of our future. The face plate is also removable and there will be different faceplates available upon release. It looks pretty damn cool.

We also got our first look at the Rock Band guitar controller this week. Feast your eyes. It is a black Fender Stratocaster and it looks like Hendrix's Black Beauty. The main difference with this controller compared to the Guitar Hero controllers, besides the fact they are different brands, the Rock Band controller has fret buttons at the top of the neck and also at the bottom of the neck near the body. This should make for some fancy guitar heroics as you go from playing the main riff up top to sliding down to solo. I'm a geek.

Check all that crap out and get ready to rock on at the end of the year.

Rosie To Host Price is Right?!?!?

That almost sounds like a bad joke. I seriously can't believe that people continue to pander to this hate spewing, lie filled, GLAAD member.

Look, I don't care if she's a lesbian, though I could do without her waving like a flag all the time. I don't even care that she's a liberal whacko. It's more that she's a hate spewing venomous liar who cut and ran when little Elizabeth Hassellbeck didn't take up for her.

She's a coward. She, like a lot of whackos, loves to introduce wild stories and theories that have little or no basis in fact. Then when she's confronted, like she was on the View by Elizabeth, she gets angry and quits.

I don't particularly like Hassellbeck. To me she's too extreme right and seems to swallow anything the Bush administration spoons out to her. She's naive and that makes her a poor debater. She's not objective.

But back to Rosie. Rosie had the audacity to call our soldiers terrorists. (No, she never exactly said those words. What she did do was ask Hassellbeck who the real terrorists were. So she strongly implied it was us.) She then said she believed 9/11 was an inside job. Basically saying because fire can't melt metal (which if you've kept up with the Charleston, SC tragedy, you know is NOT true...fire can and does melt metal.)

That type of garbage is insane and unacceptable. But instead of being laughed out of the room, she's given opportunity after opportunity. I can only assume that the intense hatred of George W. Bush by the extreme left has made this type of language acceptable and appreciated.

I say to the Price is Right, go for it. Sign her. Put her on stage. Because without the icon Bob Barker, that show is going to hit the skids anyway and this will only hasten its decline and rid CBS of a dying product.

Man Kills Bobcat with Bare HANDS!

This, by golly, is what being a man is all about. If you're attacked by a bobcat, kill it. If you feel threatened by a bobcat, kill it. If it bites and scratches, kill it. Kill it, kill it, KILL IT!

This guy was moving some trash cans at his house when he found a bobcat. The bobcat growled and leaped at him. So what did he do? He killed it.

I love this story because I was just telling my wife yesterday that I loved eating chicken wings because ripping flesh from bone with my teeth was manly. This guy is in my unofficial Manly Men of Mankind club.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go belch, scratch myself, spit, and build a barn.

Bombay Gunrunners Episode 22 is in the air!!!!

This week is a supersize edition packed with all kinds of good crap, and I do mean crap.

The Gunrunners discuss Dustin's lead foot, The Sopranos, Julie loves The Starter Wife, we also have Lost news, and V Mars R.I.P. for real this time. Julie reviews three movies (The Queen, Music and Lyrics, and Because I Said So), while Lee reviews four (The Kentuckian, Chisum, The War Wagon, and Apocalypto).

Dustin and Lee then describe their Tool concert. It was a spectacle!

We also discuss People magazine's hottest bachelors, cucumber Pepsi, and killer squirrels.

Then we move on to email and we read the most disgusting, yet, hilarious email to date for the BGRs. Those with a weak stomach may not want to apply. This podcast is NASTY!!!!!!!

By the by, Jasper, the Gunrunners are going to devote an episode to our 4th of July adventures over the years (the 4th of July is like second Christmas for the BGRs) and we would like to hear your tales as well. Does This Contract Come With Therapy?

A Michigan mom (41) decided to draw up a contract for her boyfriend (37) to have sex with her daughter (15!) while the mother was recuperating from abdominal surgery. Why? Because the mother thought that her sex staved pedophiliac scuzz of a boyfriend would leave her if he didn't have sex with her while she was healing for two months.

The internet doesn't have the bandwith for me to tear these freaks down the way I'd like to. But I'm going to scim the surface for a few points.

1. You are this girls mother. She trusts you for protection, love, care, and to put her above yourself. Instead you sold her like a household tool for this disgusting human being to systematically rape over a two month period because your selfishness superceded your love for your own daughter. You are quite possibly the lowest human being I've ever heard of.

2. The daughter signed the contract too. There's no telling how messed up this girl's head was already. But the fact that she didn't run screaming from this couple tells me she had issues and now those are going to become very much worse. I hope that contract came with a lifetime of free psychotherapy because this poor girls mind will never be right again.

3. The scuzzbucket pedophiliac boyfriend was convicted of sexual misconduct and sentenced to prison. Oh, and did I mention he was also convicted on two DIFFERENT counts of sexual misconduct with a TWELVE year old. The judge really screwed up here because he's serving the sentences for all counts at the same time. These should be consecutive sentences and this guy shouldn't get out of jail ever. If he ever did, he should be chemically castrated first.

4. Obviously all of these people are either stupid, disgusting, or disturbed or all three. But you're all obviously committing a very illegal act. So what do you do? You write up a contract and keep it. Talk about open and shut cases.

If I talk much more about this, I'll probably snap somebody's neck. Harming children should be completely unacceptable in this country. I would gladly advocate for mandatory life sentences in these incidents. Possibly even death penalties. There are serious implications to that, I realize. False accusations could result in innocent lives dying. There would obviously have to be ZERO doubt that they were guilty. But people like this simply don't deserve to live to hurt kids again. God help that man if he did anything to my child. And to think, this poor girl was served up by her own mother. Unbelievable.

Piccu's Summertime Movietime Picks O' the Week for June 15-21

It’s time for your weekly dose of what to watch in the summertime, my Summertime Movietime Picks. All of these can be found on Turner Classic Movies or you can Netflix them if you don’t have TCM.

We begin on June 15 at 5 PM EASTERN and we have the great comedy It Happened One Night starring Claudette Colbert and Clark Gable. In this film Colbert is an heiress who basically wants to escape her life and Gable is reporter who stumbles across her and sees a great story as they travel across the country. I am generally not a rom-com type guy, but this is a funny movie. It is number 35 on the AFI top 100 movies list.

Now we come to June 16 at 8 PM Eastern as a part of TCM’s Essentials series, Harvey starring James Stewart. This is a hard movie to explain. Jimmy Stewart is a wealthy man who loves spending time with his friend Harvey, who happens to be a six foot rabbit. This movie is weird and great. For the first half hour or so, you have no idea exactly what the deal is, but stick with it and you will have an all time favorite on your hands. Just ask merlin.

On June 17 at 10 PM Eastern we have a movie called The Kentuckian directed by and starring Burt Lancaster. Now I will be the first to admit that I am not a huge Burt Lancaster fan, except for his performances in The Killers and Brute Force, but parts of this movie was filmed in Ohio County and the majority of it was filmed in Owensboro, Kentucky and Rockport, Indiana. And for those of you who do not know, that is pretty much hometown USA for the Gunrunners. My Dad says that there are pictures of Mr. Lancaster walking down Main Street in Beaver Dam. I have never seen this movie so I don’t know if it is any good, but for those still living here and those who used to live here, it ought to be interesting to see what the area looked like in 1950. By the way, co-starring in this movie is a young Walter Matthau and yes, this is his movie debut.

On June 18 we begin fright night on TCM starting at 8 PM Eastern with The Uninvited. This movie stars the great Ray Milland and is a story about a brother and sister who buy a house with a ghostly secret. I must say that for a film made in 1944 I thought it was very, very creepy. There are ghostly weeping and moaning, Ouija boards, bumps in the night, and disembodied voices. This is a great scary movie. Turn out all the lights and turn up the sound and get creeped out.

Speaking of getting creeped out on June 19 at 1:30 AM Eastern you can check out The Haunting. This movie was remade and it sucked, but the original is creepy and has an undercurrent of lesbianism deftly placed throughout. The movie is about a team of investigators that moves into a house to see why it seems to destroy all who live there. Just like with The Uninvited, lights out, sound up and you will get a good creeping.

Skipping ahead to June 21 at 2:30 AM Eastern you can check out the original movie version of The Producers. It stars Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder as a Broadway producer who enlists an accountant into a scheme to create the biggest flop of his career. This was written and directed by Mel Brooks and is a very funny movie. Gene Wilder is amazing and Zero Mostel is the epitome of sliminess. A must see for Brooks fans and comedy fans in general.

Also on June 21 at 10 AM Eastern we have a movie called The Outlaw. This movie is about Billie the Kid and Doc Holliday but none of that matters. This movie was made simply to show off Jane Russell and her two big amazing…well, you will understand when you see it. Russell is amazingly beautiful and sexy in this film and she is the only reason to watch. This movie was produced and directed by Howard Hughes, you know, the crazy millionaire guy who looked like Leo DiCaprio. Another reason to see this film is that Hughes had all kinds of fights with censor boards over the overtly sexual content of the film. You can see a hilarious recreation of some of those battles in the great movie The Aviator. This movie may seem tame by today’s standards but in 1943 I think I can see why there would have been a problem.

Finally we have Adam’s Rib starring Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn on June 21 at 12 PM Eastern. If you have never seen a Tracy and Hepburn movie, then this one is the one to see. It is about husband-and-wife lawyers who take opposite sides in a women's rights case. It is funny and infuriating and just great. You can see the chemistry between these two and they look so natural together. Their chemistry wasn’t too hard to achieve considering they had a decades long affair while Tracy was married. A must see.

So there you go another week, another great slate of films to check out. You can also check out the new AFI special on the 100 greatest American movies on Wednesday June 20 at 8 PM Eastern on CBS. You can see clips from every top movie and hear stars talk about what these films mean to them. It is hosted by Morgan Freeman.
