Is anyone else tired?

One thing I've always wondered about is why people go on a vacation or a weekend trip to relax and then have to take days off from work to recover.

Piccu and I made the jaunt down to South Carolina and today I'm really tired. I think it's all in my head though. We lounged around and did nothing but enjoy the lake house and the stiff breeze rolling in off of the lake. We came back yesterday afternoon to a church function and then visited some relatives and I even got some solid sleep, but I'm tired.

If that place was 3 or 4 hours away, you wouldn't be able to keep us away. In fact, if it was 5 and a half hours away, like Merlin told us it was, you probably couldn't keep us away. But alas it's about 6 hours and 45 minutes away, which means 1) it's a pretty long trip and 2) Merlin is a filthy liar.

Coming back is a little easier than going down there, but that really has more to do with the mountain situation. Going down the Great Smoky Mountains is a little rough because your vehicle's weight is all forward and it doesn't feel as stable in the turns. Coming back you never have to use the brakes and you control your speed with gravity and the gas pedal. At least that is how it works in my 4x4, I'm sure Merlin's Maxima SE (SoccerMom Edition) is like a mountain goat on the winding asphalt there.

I was afraid that the mountains were going to be rough coming back up but it was much more enjoyable and we only almost died once so that was cool. I don't know how the motorcycle riders do it. If I'm riding a bike in the mountains, it's not going to be on I-40 with a thousand other cars, trucks, semis and RVs. The RVs are the worst because those are all huge houses on wheels towing an SUV with a 70 year-old at the helm.

We also had the pleasure of eating at the World Famous Beacon Drive-In down there in Spartanburg, SC. Home of the World's Greatest Sweet Tea. A tea that they claim they sell 350,000 gallons of per year. Well, I had the tea and the "World's Greatest" moniker should be replaced with just plain old "lemon." Now I'll admit that it's probably the best lemon sweet tea I've ever had, but when I get tea I want to do some drinkin' and the lemon makes it a sipping tea.

But we've been there and we've had that and if the catfish had been filets instead of fiddlers, Piccu would want to go back but I don't see it happening at this point.

The good news is that the gas is cheap down there and so are the Krispy Kreme donuts.

All that relaxation and tranquility can wear a man out.
Me, I went to Hilltopper Hysteria, Jackson's Orchard, tailgating, football game, Nashville, church twice and Target once.

And I'm fine!
In other news, Dustin, I hope you're ready to go to Marshall County. They ripped Christian 52-26 Friday night. It's going to be Marshall County or Warren Central.

I was not deeply impressed with the world famous Beacon, but I'm sure most of the reason was the tiny bones that stabbed my throat and stomach after my meal. I made a tactical error and I bet if I had ordered a chili cheeseburger a plenty all the way, it would have made a huge difference. The tea was good, but I do not know how official any of the tea rankings are. I am not sure if it was the world's best, but it was pretty dang good.

I am not as tired today as I am sure Bratch is, but I took the day off and I got about 10 hrs of sleep last night.

FYI, the University of Kentucky Basketball Wildcats come to Columbia, SC on Feb 18 to play the Cocks at 12:30 PM Central Standard Time. A certain someone who lives in SC and claims they can get a dozen or so tickets to this game should start the getting process in the near future. That is if anyone has any interest in going.

I have been pondering this for the past few days, and I think I have made up my mind that this was my favorite movie marathon to date. There was one year when we were at Joe's that was pretty great, but I think this was better. The food was the best so far and the movies weren't bad. The Fog was much better than I anticipated, Halloween is always classic, Shuan of the Dead was hilarious, and the end of Pet Semetary with the kid flying out of the attic made the whole thing worth while.

We have been thinking it over and have tried to come up with a trifecta of lake visits to make a tradition at least while we are here. October movie fest with hopefully a possible football game in the future, a winter jaunt surrounding a UK basketball game, and a Junish get together to enjoy the lake a bit more.

Anyway the whole thing was a success. Glad everyone made it there and back safely.
